Book Rating: 4/5 stars
I loved Hafsah Faizal’s writing style. There was something so effortless about it that made reading the book so easy yet fun.
We Hunt the Flame tells the story of Zafira, who dedicates her life to providing for her people. She dresses up as a man, known as The Hunter, and ventures into the cursed forest called Arz. She’s the only one who can go into the Arz and not go completely crazy.
It also tells the story of Nasir, the Prince of Death. He is the son of the Sultan, who sends him to assassinate those who dare defy his ruling.
They live in a world that lost its magic many years ago…or did it? A mysterious witch sents Zafira on a quest to retrieve a lost artifact that can restore magic. Meanwhile, the Sultan sends Nasir on a similar mission, except he is ordered to kill The Hunter.

Why did I like it?
This book was really entertaining to read. It had everything I love about a fantasy. There was adventure, interesting worldbuilding, and romance.
I loved how the worldbuilding was compelling without being overwhelming. The author did a fantastic job at giving enough descriptions for me to understand how the magic and politics worked, but also kept some things a secret for me to discover along the way.
The characters were well-built and I loved the dynamic between all of them. I love a good enemies-to-lovers trope, and this one was enjoyable.
The reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I felt like some of the events were too rushed. The story moves really quickly. It takes place in a span of a couple of days, and a lot happens and as a reader I wasn’t allowed to dwell too much into the finer details. Of course, this is my preference and I know there are some people out there who love moving forward with a story.
It was a pleasant read and it pulled me out of a horrible reading slump. I can’t wait to read the next one and see how the story continues!
